First Impressions of the Midas M32 4.0 firmware update

After working with M32 firmware 4.0 this week, the routing changes stand out to me. I can switch between recording a live input setup and playing tracks back from a DAW without rebuilding the routing each time.

I also prefer the darker, flatter interface. The changes I have been using are:

• The RTA in the EQ and metering views has a spectrum-like color scheme. It can be switched globally in Meters → RTA.

• The routing interface allows one-to-one routing.

• Playback and recording routing can be stored as two switchable presets, for example for USB playback from a DAW and live inputs for recording.

• Scribble-strip text entry has autocompletion, saving repeated typing when naming channels.

I did have to return the mixer to the settings I was accustomed to before the update. Leave time to check those before taking the updated console into a show.
